DG RONALD "POPE" SOLIS joined the Rotary Club of Marikina West in March 1999. In December of the same year, he was elected as President of his Club to serve for RY 2001-2002 with the theme "Mankind is Our Business, during the governorship of PDG Edison U. Ang, and who happens to be our next district trainer.

However, a few months into RY 2000-2001, the President of his Club became seriously ill and subsequently passed on, which forced DGE Pope to assume the Presidency ahead of his destined Rotary year. Thus he served as Club President for almost 2 years. In his more than 20 years as Rotarian, he has been voted many times as Rotarian of the Year of RC Marikina West, so much so, that his Club had to elevate him to become a Hall of Famer to give way to other deserving club members.

He had served the district in various capacities. At one time, he became district secretary for operations. He had been Chair of the District Training Assembly (DISTAS) twice. When the district held its very first District Resolutions Meeting (DRM), and lacking any helpful template on this type of forum, then Gov. Louie Ticman tapped the legal knowledge of DG Pope regarding parliamentary practice and procedure and asked him to become its Chair. Another memorable feat of DG Pope was when he chaired the Oktoberfest during the term of Gov. Marilou Co. In holding this famous German festival, the host Club RC Marikina West remained steadfast in observing authentic German traditions, a feat that remained to be talk-of-the-town to this date.

As a lawyer he co-founded his now established law firm the SOLIS MEDINA FAJARDO and MALILONG LAW with offices in Tektite Towers, Ortigas Center, Pasig, and which is engaged in several aspects of the legal practice. In his early years of practice, DG Pope did a lot of trial work.

However, in 2004, at a young age of 44 years old, he was appointed by Pres.Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as Commissioner or Head of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the country's regulator for telecoms and broadcast.

When he returned to law practice, he spearheaded his law firm's practice in the field of ICT. As such, he provides legal work and counselling to some of the biggest telecoms entities in the country such as Dito Telecommunity and Converge, ICT among others. He once led a group of lawyers and technical and business experts who helped Mr. Ramon S. Ang and the San Miguel Corp. in their business acquisitions when they made an attempt to enter the telecoms sector.

DG Pope is also a professor of law in his alma mater, the UP College of Law, and is active in the lawyers organizations such as the Philippine Bar Association or the PBA, the oldest and largest voluntary association of Filipino lawyers, where he was a Past President.

DG Pope is a proud product of the public schools. He considers as one of his endearing achievements his becoming the President of the MSAT High School Class of 1977, who led to organize a scholarship program for the best and the brightest students of the Marikina Science HS, but who all come from truly destitute families. If there is an occasion that invariably brings a twinkle to his eyes, it is when he would proudly see his scholars get admitted to further scholarships in UP, Ateneo, La Salle and all the other big schools.

DG Pope is an avid golfer, being a member of 3 golf & country clubs here in the NCR and in Baguio City. DG Pope also lends his professional expertise to some clubs where he is a member, either as a director of the board, corporate secretary, or legal counsel to Valley Golf, Club Filipino and Makati Sports Club among others.

Although without formal training in culinary courses, DG Pope is a good cook and a gourmet. He inherited his cooking prowess from his late father. One activity that relaxes him and which he considers therapy for him is to grill steak for family and dear friends in their chic and comfortable home in Antipolo.

DG Pope is happily married to the beautiful and talented Victoria Baterina Solis or Spouse Tita Vcky, who hails from Baguio City, and who herself is a successful entrepreneur with many philanthropic causes.

They have 3 children, who are now all professionals, namely, Jesse Pauline or Jesse, a lawyer who finished her undergrad in UP but pursued her law studies in Dela Salle. Jose Miguel or Mijo, also a lawyer who graduated from UPLaw just like his dad, and Jiĺlian Samantha or Sam, who a license Electronics Engineer who finished BSECE also in UP, where she now pursues a masteral degree in data science.

With all his achievements in life, DG Pope will not hesitate to say to anyone who asks that his greatest accomplishments in life are having seen Jesse and Mijo passed the bar on the same year and knowing that Sam is now surely on her way to develop competitve edge in the niche field of data science and analytics.

By the way, Jesse and Sam are newly minted Rotarians of D3800, having joined as charter members of the newest formed Club, the RC San Juan Supreme.
