If we are to truly change the world with The Magic of Rotary, it’s up to all of us to foster a sense of belonging in our
clubs. But every club should take its own path to get there, and the Action Plan can help you find your way. What
does that look like?

Take for instance the Rotary Club of Beveren-Waas in Belgium. It was chartered in 1974 but has evolved with the
times, developing both a strategic plan and a membership plan. To find new members, the club analyzes the city’s
professions to help focus its search, and all new members are quickly assigned tasks and roles.

The club also mixes up meeting times, alternating between evening and afternoon sessions, making them
accessible for all members.

Sometimes, circumstances force clubs to make changes. But as people of action, we know that behind every
obstacle is an opportunity.

The Rotary Club of Holyoke in Massachusetts was forced from its meeting place because of rising costs after the
COVID-19 pandemic, but members took this setback and turned it into a strength. The club started meeting in a
library community room that was available for no charge and catering lunch from a nearby deli. Lunch costs $10
per person but it’s optional, so no one has to spend money to attend a meeting. What a great way to work toward
being “fair to all concerned.”

Since making this change, the Holyoke club has gained 13 members. I suspect part of its membership growth is due
to the club’s sense of inclusivity — the first step toward belonging.

If you ask members what they expect from the club experience, you might find that your club doesn’t meet
expectations. Think of this as an opportunity to reshape your club in exciting ways, as alternative club models are
making a positive impact.

For example, a Rotary Fellowship called Beers Rotarians Enjoy Worldwide, or BREW, has worked closely with the
Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Rotary Action Group for the past eight years to assist with clean water projects. In
that time, BREW has funneled 25 percent of its dues to those initiatives.

BREW is one of many examples of members pursuing belonging to improve the world.

I can’t stress enough the importance of belonging. Clubs become simply irresistible when all members feel that
they are exactly where they need to be. To me, belonging is the spark that ignites The Magic of Rotary.

As you receive feedback from club members and the community you serve, I urge you to pursue that spark. The
Action Plan can help you find the path to success, and if you light your way with the spirit of belonging, that path
will lead to a bright future for your club, your community, and the world.

More than a month has passed since we started our Irresistible Year together! During our 1st Breakfast Meeting conducted last 17 August 2024 at the historic Club Filipino, we happily celebrated our initial gains and successes and charted strategies in our quest to success. Thank you Cluster 1 (Zones 1, 2, and 3) for successfully hosting that meeting. Special thanks to DDS Giovanni R. Flores, SAG Millie Rose M. Francisco, SAG Jonathan Gerard V. Anderson and SAG Rosario A. Funaki, including all the Assistant Governors and Irresistible Presidents from Zones 1 to 3, for all your efforts and preparations to ensure a seamless program, a successful and productive breakfast meeting.

During that event, a number of important Rotary concerns were discussed. Thank you to our speakers from the various working committees, to wit: 1) Membership - CP Lauro A. Secreto; 2) TRF- PDG Nelson M. Aspe; 3) Annual Fund – LTG Sherrylou O. Khosiking; 4) End Polio Now – EPNDC PDG Marilou Co; 5) Grants – PP Paola Maria Felise J. Acebedo; 6) Service Projects – PP Noel Cuico; 7) Typhoon Carina Relief Operations - SAG Armida Alcantara; 8) PublicImage – PP Elsie Ang; 9) Youth Service – DRR Jake Villablanca and DIC Carlo Angelo Robles; 10) District Awards Criteria – PP Marie Jane I. Liban and PP Erwin Belleza; 11) Ways and Means/Car Raffle - PP Celso C. Montalla, PP Bobby Leung, IPP Lenie Ligsay, and AG Rolando C. Cardinoza; 12) TRF Roadshow – LTG Sherrylou O. Fundraising – PDG Nelson Aspe; 17) Octoberfest – PP Luis Emmanuel S. Diy; 18) Annual Giving Dinner – LTG Rey Pineda; and 19) End Polio Now Day – PP Marie Catherine M. Tech. Indeed, that was a very enriching and productive morning for all attendees!

Congratulations as well to the early achievers who were feted during the breakfast meeting in the areas of TRF, membership, Rotary Magic Project in Tanay, Rizal and other service projects, among others. Do not rest on your laurels. Continue to do great things for others, for your clubs and for yourselves!

We also recognize some people who have been extremely busy to assist Typhoon Carina’s victims. After some parts of our district have been ravaged by the typhoon and flash flood recently, there were certain people who selflessly shared their talents, time and resources to our less
fortunate brothers and sisters, mostly from Marikina and Rizal areas. Indeed, some of them were typhoon and flood victims themselves but they still chose to help others and demonstrated the values of “malasakit” and “bayanihan”, traits we should cultivate and spread as human beings.

Thank you SAG Armida “Amy” Alcantara of Zone 4-B for leading the district relief operation. Thank you also to all the donors and volunteers who shared their gifts of time, talents and resources to others! May God continue to bless you all! I urge you to do great things always, conduct strategic and impactful service projects that will truly make a difference in the lives of others!

Moreover, in our Rotary calendar, the month of August is marked as Rotary Membership and New Club Development Month. This celebration underscores the heart and soul of our organization – our members. We count each and every members contribution to our gains and successes. Indeed, the strength or weakness of a club depends upon its members. So, let us nurture them. Let them grow and mature as Rotarians. Let them enjoy the magic of Rotary.

As reported during the breakfast meeting, we started the Irresistible Rotary Year with 2,929 members. So far, we have already grown in number, now ranked 3rd from among the Philippine Rotary districts in terms of membership. With this, we acknowledge the efforts of our Membership Team, led by Chair Larry Secreto, for this early membership gains.

Shout out also to the following clubs which were cited as Top 3 Performers in Early Attraction during the breakfast meeting, to wit: 1) RC Pasig Premier – 8 members; 2) RC Eisenhower – 5 members; and 3) RC San Mateo Highlands - 4 members.

Lastly, Raquel and I recognize your support and cooperation in the various activities and projects of the district since we started our Irresistible journey. We are hopeful that you are still with us as we tread the remaining parts of this Rotary Year and beyond! Together, let us share and spread the magic of Rotary!

Maraming salamat po!
