This program aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities by equipping participants with knowledge in fertilizer production which they can use for personal agricultural needs or as a source of income. The project includes hands-on training sessions, educational workshops on the benefits of organic fertilizers, and guidance on how to market the products. By the end of the program, participants will have the skills and resources to start their own fertilizer-making ventures, contributing to their economic stability and supporting environmentally friendly agricultural practices in the community.
The Rotary Club of Suburban East Rizal identified the community's needs through consultations with local farmers, community leaders, and agricultural experts who highlighted the challenges faced by residents in maintaining productive and sustainable agricultural practices. Many community members expressed a desire for additional income sources and opportunities to improve their farming methods. Additionally, observations of the community's reliance on costly chemical fertilizers and the lack of access to affordable, eco-friendly alternatives further underscored the need for a livelihood program focused on fertilizer making. These insights informed the development of the "Livelihood Program on Fertilizer Making," ensuring it directly addresses the community's need for both sustainable agricultural practices and economic opportunities.
The project will have lasting benefits for the community by providing participants with valuable skills that can generate ongoing income and support sustainable agricultural practices. After the program ends, the 30 adults trained in organic fertilizer production will be equipped to produce and sell fertilizers, offering them a steady source of income and reducing their dependency on expensive chemical fertilizers. This, in turn, can lead to more sustainable and environmentally friendly farming practices within the community. The knowledge and skills gained through the program can also be shared with others in the community, potentially expanding the impact of the project as more individuals learn how to make and use organic fertilizers. Over time, this can lead to increased agricultural productivity, improved soil health, and a stronger local economy.
The benefits will continue as participants use their knowledge to generate income, share skills with others, and enhance local farming practices by reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers. This program fosters community empowerment and sustainability, leading to healthier soils, better crop yields, and a stronger local economy. The project’s impact will ripple through the community, supporting long-term resilience and self-reliance.
